Many of us recognize the importance of taking care of our global community. Kathryn's youngest daughter (Kristen) and her husband (Eddie) have developed a nonprofit school for disadvantaged youth in Cape Town, South Africa. Eddie is originally from the local area and he and Kristen fell in love while attending school in Muizenberg, South Africa. Although they lived in the USA for 10 years and had 3 of their 4 children here, they always knew they were called to help the youth that currently suffer the wounds Eddie suffered as a boy. They named their organization Open Hands Community Project and the school is called Day Break Academy.
Kathryn serves as the Care Coordinator for this amazing program and has traveled there 7 times in the last 10 years to visit her family and the school. While there she teaches art classes to the students, helps out on their little farm and spends quality time with the students who now call her "Nana". Anyone who has traveled to Africa will tell you that there is something very special about the people who live there. Despite desperate poverty and discrimination, their hearts are open and their sense of belonging is strong.
If the needs of South Africa, especially the basic needs of the children, calls to you please visit their website www.openhandscp.org and get involved. As Rumi says "Love is the language between us and everything".
